Premium Drilling Kit | Countersink Drill & Automatic Punch
We've used these tools for many years and know how much easier they make the fitting process. That's why we've decided to package them up for you. The kit makes installation quick and foolproof: pilot the holes, mark the centres, drill them clean, fit your legs or brackets flush.
The drill bit looks unusual, but it's actually very simple. It's a normal drill with a countersink finish and a depth stop. The 3.5mm bit drills a pilot hole for a 5mm wood screw, and cuts a small recess at the surface in the same pass. The recess matters. When you drive a wood screw, the screw pulls a small amount of wood up around the head. Without a countersink, that pulled-up wood blocks the base plate from sitting flat, and you get a slight wobble. The countersink gives the wood somewhere to go, and the plate sits flush.
A second feature: the depth-stop is set before the kit ships. You can't drill too deep. The bit reaches the right depth and stops. No measuring, no flag of tape on the side of the bit. If you want to use the kit on a different project, the depth-stop is adjustable to whatever depth you need.
The marking punch makes sure your drill goes in the right spot. Place it on the marked point, press down, it leaves a small indent. The drill bit sits in that indent and won't shift on first contact. While a pencil works, this is more reliable. There's nothing worse than pencil-marking a hole and then the drill skipping off to another spot.
Any drill or impact driver works. Even an electric screwdriver works if you have patience. It just turns slower. The 1/4-inch hex shank fits standard drill chucks and impact-driver bit holders.
We've used these tools for years and years across our workshop, our homes, and our friends' projects. They're part of our toolbox, not a freebie afterthought. The kit comes free with every Hairpin furniture set when you choose the Premium Drilling Kit option at checkout. (The alternative is the Drill It For Me service, where your top arrives pre-drilled and the kit isn't included.) Buy this for replacements, top-only purchases, or any future install where you need to fit something to wood.
